What is XOAP?

XOAP is a cloud-hosted SaaS application that combines the core technologies IaaS, Paas, DaaS and Saas. It enables any organization to provision and manage its infrastructure, virtual desktops and client or server systems from one simple and intuitive console. Where does the XOAP console run?

The SaaS console is running in the cloud, and it’s hosted, managed, and operated by RIS. End-user workloads are orchestrated by the XOAP service and can run in a variety of public clouds and in your own datacenter.

Can XOAP manage Desktops as a Services (DaaS)?

Yes, both virtual desktops in your infrastructure, and Azure Virtual Desktop or AWS Workspaces. XOAP can further manage all the other services and systems you need to run your workloads. From image management, to user profile configuration.

How many servers, clients and users can be managed within XOAP? Is there any limitation?

There is no limit to the number of systems you can manage. Our infrastructure scales automatically with your needs and does not require dedicated infrastructure in your datacenter.

Is there a minimum of nodes or users to subscribe to XOAP?

At least 10 systems or users must be subscribed.

Does XOAP provide role-based access control?

Yes, different authorization levels are provided for the individual modules or the entire system.

Does XOAP support AWS Workspaces?

Yes. With XOAP you are able to manage your AWS Workspaces. You can install, configure and deploy applications and system configurations with DSC.

Does XOAP Support AVD on Azure?

Yes. With XOAP you are able to manage your WVD’s. You can install, configure and deploy applications and system configurations with DSC. Operating System images can be created with image.XO. Full support will be implemented in 2022 with our platform.XO module.

Is there support for Two-Factor Authentication?

Yes, we support popular products like Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.

How long does it take to get my account after ordering?

It takes a few minutes to set up the dedicated account for you. You will then be able to get started right away.

Does XOAP need any appliance installed locally?

No. An encrypted and secure connection is established over the Internet to the XOAP backend.

Does XOAP have an API?

Yes, the respective modules have an API and can be accessed with authorized users.

How do you handle PowerShell DSC module updates?

We provide some basic modules that are available inside your account. Customers can download and upload their own modules. Additionally, modules from the PSGallery can be downloaded and then integrated into your account.

How are official and XOAP modules differentiated?

Our XOAP modules have a name prefix “XOAP” and a name postfix “DSC”. Further documentation can be found here

Are there any limits that can’t be configured with DSC?

PowerShell DSC configures machine-related settings. Everything that can be configured through PowerShell can be implemented via PowerShell DSC. Write your own PowerShell DSC modules if you are missing specific functions.

Where is my PowerShell DSC infrastructure running?

Your dedicated PowerShell DSC Pull-Server is created automatically during account initialization. Our services are typically running in the Frankfurt region in EU.

How many clients can I manage with PowerShell DSC?

The dedicated PowerShell DSC Pull-Server is automatically scaled with growing demand.

How do I sign my PowerShell DSC configurations?

You can sign your local configurations if you want to upload your own mof files. If you choose to upload ps1 based configurations with our frontend, all configurations are automatically signed with our code-signing certificate.

How do you prevent clients from registering with the Pull-Server?

We can restrict access to the Pull-Server by using client-certificates and IP-based access.

Can I write and upload my own PowerShell DSC configurations without using the PowerShell DSC Configuration Wizard?

The PowerShell DSC Configuration Wizard is for convenience and for administrators who are new to PowerShell DSC. You can write your own configurations for multiple nodes and upload and manage them with our frontend. Locally written configurations currently cannot be edited with the DSC Configuration Wizard.

Can I configure node dependencies?

This is possible by uploading your multi-node configurations with the help of our frontend.

Are all operating system images pre-configured?

We provide you with several Image templates to get you started quickly. You are free to upload your own components and create Images that you need for your use case.

Where are my applications stored in the application management and how much storage space is available to me?

The applications are stored in the customer account of the XOAP backend. You have 1 TB of storage space at your disposal, which can also be expanded if required.
